The National Leader of the Azerbaijani people and the architect of modern independent Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev, passed away on December 12, 2003.

Heydar Aliyev fulfilled a great mission of salvation in Azerbaijani history, safeguarding the country’s statehood and guiding it onto the path of independent development. Under his leadership, in 1995, the first Constitution of independent Azerbaijan was adopted, strengthening the legal foundations of state-building and ensuring stability in the country’s political and economic life.

The political course defined by Heydar Aliyev remains the cornerstone of Azerbaijan’s statehood today and continues to guarantee the successful development of the country.

December 12 – Memorial Day of National Leader Heydar Aliyev is commemorated every year with great respect by the Azerbaijani community in Spain.

Memorial Ceremony of the National Leader
Barcelona, December 12, 2018 – A memorial ceremony dedicated to the National Leader Heydar Aliyev was held, organized by the “Azerbaijani Society in Barcelona” (ASB) and Casa Azerbaiyán in Barcelona.
The event was attended by members of the Spanish Congress, heads of diplomatic missions, representatives of the public, media representatives, and members of the Azerbaijani diaspora. During the ceremony, the Spanish-language documentary film “The Road to Eternity” about Heydar Aliyev’s life and activities was screened.

100th Anniversary of Heydar Aliyev
Barcelona, May 10, 2023 – A classical concert program dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of Heydar Aliyev, the founder of modern Azerbaijan and prominent political and state leader, was organized.
The event was held with the organization of the “Azerbaijani Society in Barcelona” (ASB) and Casa Azerbaiyán in Barcelona, with the support of the State Committee on Work with Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The concert was attended by Spanish politicians, businesspeople, journalists, members of the diaspora, and representatives of the local community.
