World Congresses of Azerbaijanis

IV Congress – Baku, June 3, 2016

On June 3, 2016, the IV Congress of World Azerbaijanis opened in Baku. At the opening ceremony, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, delivered a comprehensive speech.

Following the official opening, panel discussions were held on the activities of diaspora organizations and future opportunities for cooperation. More than 500 delegates from 49 countries attended the congress. Spain was represented by Karim Karimov, Chairman of the “Azerbaijani Society in Barcelona.”

V Congress – Shusha, April 28, 2022

On April 28, 2022, the V Congress of World Azerbaijanis took place in the cultural capital of Azerbaijan, Shusha. President Ilham Aliyev officially opened the event and welcomed participants to the liberated lands of Karabakh.

The congress began with a moment of silence in memory of the martyrs. In his speech, President Ilham Aliyev said:

"Today we are holding a Congress of World Azerbaijanis in free Karabakh and free Shusha. The name of this congress is Victory Congress, and this is natural. Because for the first time after the historic Victory, Azerbaijanis from all over the world are gathering to hold a congress. In general, the name Victory is very appropriate for our people. You have come here through Victory Road, the name of the congress is Victory Congress. At present, Victory Museums are being built in different parts of the country, first of all, in liberated lands".

Around 400 delegates from across the world participated. During the event, a number of diaspora activists were awarded the “For Service to the Diaspora” medal, among them Karim Karimov, Chairman of the “Azerbaijani Society in Barcelona.”

Additionally, the new composition of the Coordination Council of World Azerbaijanis was approved, marking the successful conclusion of the V Congress.
